Analysis of Packet Transmission Times for Global Reliable Multicast in the Internet
نویسنده
چکیده
In order to improve the performance of reliable multicast protocols retransmission strategies with local error recovery have been proposed. This paper presents a new analytical model for the comparison of Internet packet transmission times of sender-based, receiver-based and router-based retransmission techniques. For all three protocol types acknowledgement mechanisms based on ACKs and NAKs are considered. Realistic Internet delays are taken into account and the transmission time for individual receivers of the multicast group is computed. The results of a global scenario show that in the case of ACKs local recovery techniques significantly reduce the transmission time of packets. In the case of NAKs a remarkable reduction is only achieved by router-based protocols while the transmission times for sender-based and receiver-based approaches are rather similar. متن کاملExploring the design space of reliable multicast protocols for wireless mesh networks
Many important applications in wireless mesh networks require reliable multicast communication, i.e., with 100% packet delivery ratio (PDR). Previously, numerous multicast protocols based on automatic repeat request (ARQ) have been proposed to improve the packet delivery ratio. However, these ARQ-based protocols can lead to excessive control overhead and drastically reduced throughput. In this ...
متن کاملImproving the Performance of RPL Routing Protocol for Internet of Things
The emerging Internet of Things (IoT) connects the physical world to the digital one and composes large networks of smart devices to support various applications. In order to provide a suitable communication in such networks, a reliable routing protocol is needed. In this paper, a modified version of an IPv6 Routing Protocol for Low-Power and Lossy networks (RPL), which has been standardized by...
متن کاملA Dual Mode Buffer for Reliable Multicast in Mobile IP Networks
In mobile IP networks, a local mobility agent is extended to assist reliable multicast for mobile nodes. Each agent keeps in its buffer all packets that are likely to be requested by any of its mobile nodes. They can provide reliable service by performing a retransmission for the requested packet from its mobile nodes. When a mobile node moves to another subnet, transmission errors tend to happ...
متن کاملFeature Extraction to Identify Network Traffic with Considering Packet Loss Effects
There are huge petitions of network traffic coming from various applications on Internet. In dealing with this volume of network traffic, network management plays a crucial rule. Traffic classification is a basic technique which is used by Internet service providers (ISP) to manage network resources and to guarantee Internet security. In addition, growing bandwidth usage, at one hand, and limit...
